Planning recovery after chemical peel
Expected redness, flaking and wound-care needs vary with peel depth. Follow the prescribed cleansing, moisturizing and sun-protection plan; do not pull off peeling skin. Ask when makeup and active skin products may resume. Arrange a review if pain, redness or drainage worsens, and keep the visit flexible when the skin needs more healing before travel.
Prepare before the appointment
Ask whether a preparation regimen is required and when to change irritating skin-care products. Do not stop prescribed medicines without the prescriber’s advice. Discuss recent sun exposure, previous cold sores and any tendency toward dark marks after inflammation. Request written instructions that specify the proposed peel rather than a generic facial aftercare sheet.

Possible problems include prolonged redness, irritation, infection, scarring and unwanted darker or lighter areas. Risk depends on depth, technique and the patient’s skin history. A deeper peel can require closer supervision and a more substantial healing period. Strong peels should not be purchased or used as a substitute for a qualified clinical assessment.
Interpreting the result as tissues settle
Peeling does not correct every scar, loose skin or deeper contour problem. Some plans use repeated superficial treatments and require ongoing skin care. More visible peeling does not prove a better result. Ask what improvement is realistic for the particular concern and which changes are unlikely to occur even after completing the proposed course.
