The clinical choices
Hyaluronic acid and other filler materials differ in behavior and management. Ask for the product name, intended injection site and amount.
A hollow, skin laxity and a contour difference are not the same issue. Discuss what filler can change and whether another approach is more suitable.
Accidental injection into a vessel can cause tissue injury and, rarely, vision loss or stroke. Ask how vascular complications are recognized and managed.
Is this procedure right for you?
Your previous filler, implants, surgery, infections and dental or skin treatment history may affect assessment. Explain any allergies and prior injection reactions. Ask the clinician to identify the product already present if treatment has been performed elsewhere and to explain the limits of assessing it from photographs. Suitability also depends on the anatomical site and the intended depth of placement.
Filler cannot reproduce every change achieved by surgery or treat all causes of facial aging. Results, duration and the need for repeat treatment vary by material and area. Removing or dissolving a product is not always simple, complete or risk-free. Avoid interpreting a description such as reversible as a guarantee that the previous appearance can be restored.
Risks and alternatives
Swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps, infection and delayed inflammation can occur. A rare but serious complication is filler entering or obstructing a blood vessel, which can damage skin and cause vision loss or stroke. Seek immediate medical attention for unusual pain, even if it is not severe; changes in vision; skin near the injection turning white, gray or blue; or stroke symptoms such as sudden difficulty speaking, facial drooping or weakness on one side. Do not wait for pain to become severe or for a routine online reply. Alert the treating clinician immediately if symptoms start during injection. After leaving the clinic, seek immediate local medical care; call local emergency services for vision changes or suspected stroke. Ask about the clinic’s emergency response before treatment.
Observation, treatment of an underlying skin problem, botulinum toxin for a muscle-driven concern, or surgery for an appropriate structural problem may be discussed. These choices address different mechanisms. A comparison should identify the change each option can make rather than treating all treatments advertised for the same facial area as equivalent substitutes.
Before treatment
Bring your previous product names, treatment dates and injection sites if available. Ask for the proposed product and amount in writing, and establish who injects and who manages urgent complications. Discuss important upcoming events because swelling can affect appearance. Use the clinic’s agreed secure channel for photographs or health records during remote planning.
Questions patients ask
What does dermal fillers involve?
Fillers differ in composition and how the body responds to them. Hyaluronic acid is one category, but other temporary or longer-lasting materials exist. The clinician should establish whether the visible concern is a volume deficit, a skin problem or tissue descent before choosing an injection. A facial region and a syringe size do not by themselves define a safe or appropriate plan.
What affects the treatment choice?
Observation, treatment of an underlying skin problem, botulinum toxin for a muscle-driven concern, or surgery for an appropriate structural problem may be discussed. These choices address different mechanisms. A comparison should identify the change each option can make rather than treating all treatments advertised for the same facial area as equivalent substitutes.
How should I plan recovery?
Obtain a record of the product and sites treated. Follow the clinician’s instructions for skin care and activity, and ask which degree of swelling or bruising is expected. An early appearance may reflect swelling rather than the settled contour. Keep access to prompt assessment after departure from Korea; urgent symptoms should not wait for a routine messaging reply.

Dermal fillers: Risks & Suitability
Dermal fillers add material beneath the skin to change selected contours or volume. They are not interchangeable with botulinum toxin. Before filler in Korea, identify the exact product, injection area, amount and emergency arrangements; a quick appointment still carries medical risks.
