What the clinician needs to assess
The clinician should diagnose the concern and assess skin tone, recent tanning, a history of pigment change, scarring, cold sores and previous skin procedures. Not every mark is a resurfacing problem. Discuss the exact area, whether the skin can tolerate the proposed intensity and whether your stay in Korea permits the necessary wound care and review.

Explore procedure & clinicsUnderstand the proposed method
Ablative resurfacing: Removes skin and can involve more wound care; suitability depends on the concern and risk assessment.
Non-ablative resurfacing: Targets tissue without the same degree of surface removal; the course and expected improvement can differ.
Fractional delivery: Describes a pattern of treatment, not a guarantee of mild recovery or a specific device.
Discuss risk before consent
Risks include burns, infection, prolonged redness, scarring and darker or lighter pigmentation. Previous cold sores may be relevant to prevention planning. The device and settings must be appropriate for the skin and treatment site. Ask how unexpected pain, blistering or delayed healing will be assessed and who is available for an in-person review.
Agree the follow-up plan
Recovery depends on how much skin was treated and how deeply. More intensive resurfacing may need wound care and scheduled reviews; lighter treatment can still cause visible redness and sensitivity. Ask when cleansing, makeup, exercise and sun exposure are appropriate. A short appointment does not establish that a long flight or holiday activity is suitable immediately afterward.
